PLA (Polylactic Acid) modification

Modified Polylactic Acid (PLA)

Characteristics of modified‑PLA: PLA modification mainly targets three inherent drawbacks: high brittleness, poor heat resistance and insufficient barrier performance. Toughening modification adopts natural plasticizers such as epoxidized soybean oil methyl ester or blending with elastic polymers. It can raise elongation at break from 2 % up to 785 % or multiply toughness by 20 times. Heat‑resistance modification forms stereocomplex crystals between L‑PLA and D‑PLA, lifting melting point from 170 ℃ to 227 ℃. Barrier modification adopts multi‑layer lamination or addition of nanomaterials and oxygen scavengers, achieving oxygen‑barrier performance comparable to PET. Besides, blending modification can endow PLA with intelligent features including oxidation resistance, antibacterial property and pH‑indicator function.

Main Applications

Modified‑PLA is widely adopted for food packaging requiring moderate heat resistance and toughness, such as transparent food containers, fresh‑food trays and microwave‑safe lunch boxes, disposable tableware, medical products including drug sustained‑release carriers and surgical sutures, as well as 3D‑printing materials and non‑woven fabrics.

Properties: degradation‑modified Physical properties: customizable per customer requirements (partial performances can match imported brands).

MOQ: 1 ton upon successful sample testing.
